Sage Reincarnation Chapter 13

“In this parallel world with magic, would such a thing exist too?”

I quietly whispered while viewing one of the slimes’ visions. It’s clear that someone is definitely here, but I can’t make them out. This must be the work of some sort of magic.

Well, even in a tough test such as this, it was too easy to find an instructor. SEN

“Hey, I’m going to transfer some magic.”

“Got it.”

With the slime’s approval, I transferred the magic of “flashlight” to the nearest one to the noises. This was one of the spells I found in a book shortly after coming to this world.

If the enemy is using some sort of optical camouflage, I thought that I might be able to see them for a moment when illuminated with an intense light.

“It’s no use, huh.”

Apparently, this was not going to work. Surprised by the light, the noises stopped for a bit, but soon started to move forward again. On the contrary, it seems that we have given the enemy an advanced warning, and its movement became more cautious.

For now, it turns out that light-based magic is going to be meaningless. I need to make it visible in some other way or hit it with a ranged attack. However, I think that this may be an examiner, not an enemy, so I don’t want to use an attack that would cause injury if possible.

First of all, I should try to look at it in another way. How about, using temperature?

Because there are so many types of magic, to look at the heat sources, I’ll need to use some type of thermographic magic. I tried to search my knowledge…

“Huh? Can’t find any.”

Unfortunately, there was no such magic. What I found instead, however…

“Hmm… Can I make it with this?”

There was a spell called “Magic Creation”, which suggests that it could create spells. Thinking so, I launched “Magic Creation”.

“Wow, this might take some time.”

What was displayed was a rather complicated screen. I can likely understand its content, so I’ll probably be able to make the spell… However, it seems difficult to do so with how fast the noises are moving towards me. Instead, I’ll make the spells later, and do something with spells now.

“Everybody gather!”

“Is it fine if we stop observing?”

“Yes. Instead, make a circle about 5 meters away from the tent and head outwards.”

“Got it!”

The slimes listened to my instructions and gather silently.

“All right, let’s go… Sensing Barrier!”

I used the barrier magic I found instead of some heat source detection spell. This spell makes an invisible boundary. If anything touches this boundary, it is immediately found.

Unlike heat source detection, I wouldn’t be able to see the other party myself… However, with this spell, if the other party would come into the vicinity of the tent, the spell will certainly react.

At that point, through my slime, I will be able to apprehend him using magic.

“…He should be here soon.”

The presence seemed to be getting closer. It seems like he’s getting really close, I should stay on high alert.

Soon enough, there was a reaction from the barrier magic.

“Offensive Magic –– Magic Net!”

I’d rather not let the other party hear my voice. I’ll just communicate with them using magic through the slime.

I’ll be using the slime that is right at where the barrier reacted as a medium.

“…”

As I cast magic, from where the barrier reacted, a breathtaking voice could be heard.

And so, someone whom I couldn’t see seemed to be caught in the net.

“Freeze!”

I drew my sword, then as I was thrusting towards the net, a voice could suddenly be heard.

“Stop! I give up!”

As those words were said, the figure of a male came into sight.

The man had a slender body and an unsatisfied face, exuding a powerful aura.

“Yo, do you want me to break this net? This is all merely a test, there isn’t a need to actually fight.”

“Oh.”

With that said, I released the magic net.

Although I don’t really know if I was able to improve upon my magic, it still feels great that I was able to use magic.

And so, the man who I released from the magic net, spoke to me with a troubled expression.

“It’s quite late for me to introduce myself. But anyway, I’m ISU. Since I lost, I’ll have to go and discuss some things with some of the people above.

“Discuss? Are you in trouble?

“Hmm… Let’s just say that since I got caught by you, I may be in quite a bit of trouble.

He gets in trouble ‘cause he got caught?

“This… Isn’t this an exam made for the students to find the instructors?”

“Oh. Yea, but not really. The exam was indeed made to have that goal in mind, but the instructors aren’t actually supposed to get caught.”

“Wait, so I could’ve passed the exam without catching you?”

Now, I was wondering if I should’ve even schemed so much to catch this guy.

Well, nevertheless, it was quite interesting.

“Yea. It’s supposed to be impossible for me to be caught. I was part of a guild which had the best spies. When in the middle of a forest, there shouldn’t be more than 10 people who’d be able to see me.”

To think that he was actually such an expert at hiding…

No, wait.

“So, why did you even come here?”

I let the question out of my mouth as soon as it came to mind.

Unexpectedly, ISU immediately replied.

“Ah. As a matter of fact, I didn’t notice the magic you cast as I was crawling under the tent. I actually wanted to test how good you were at being a lookout. Yet, in the end, I actually got caught.”
